Things to Look for in a Screen protector

By Tyler Kennedy

Cellular phones are evolving and having more sophisticated as technology advances and along with this advancement is the occurrence of the use of a screen protector. Take for instance, the famous smart phones available today like iPhones and Android phones. It's more like a mini computer than a mobile phone, in fact, the use as a cellular phone is just one of the many features of these gadgets. The phone features a touch screen, which has become standard on all Android phones, but there is the issue of scratching or otherwise damaging the screen. Fortunately, there are lots of companies that are coming out with screen covers or other products that are made to protect this sensitive area of any touch-screen device.

The screen protector not only gives the display of a touch screen cell phone extra protection from scratching and other dangers, it also helps make the phone last longer, which is extremely important considering the fact that the phone is quite pricey, and most consumers look to resell it within quite a while for a newer model. A scratch on the touchscreen display or too many fingerprints can reduce the attractiveness of a used mobile phone, meaning less money when it's sold. Thus, it is important if you're looking to resell your precious touchscreen display phone to help keep the device as new-looking as possible, hence the importance of a screen protector.

There are several things to look out for when getting screen protectors. If at all possible, it is suggested to get protectors that are laser cut to the exact size of your phone's screen. If your phone has a proximity sensor or front-camera, try to buy a protector that is pre-cut so these components have no coverage. There are some good brands that do not laser cut but just ensure they come with detailed guidelines and tools so you can create the desired shape and size.

Some protectors also permit you to take them off, wash them and re-apply. We recommend avoiding these. Their adhesive abilities usually are not great and the edges can peel off fast. Also, try to avoid screen covers that come in packs of 5, 10 or 20. These often won't last very long and you'll have to go through the process of installing them on a regular basis.

When installing your screen protector, it is important to prepare your work area. Choose a place as free from dust as possible. Also, ensure the light is good so that any dust particles that do fall on the screen, are visible and can be removed quickly. Next is to clean your hand using soap and water. After this you may also dip your fingers into some rubbing alcohol to remove the oil from your fingertips. Third is to clean your screen. Then get a lint-free fabric or pure cotton cloth. Dip the cloth casually into the alcohol and give your phone's screen a good wipe, making sure you remove every single dust particle. Now, get the screen guard and read the instructions. Some guards can be placed on the screen and then repositioned if needed. After the protector has been completely used and the bubbles worked to the edges, you might still get the odd small bubble around the protector's edge.
