Battlestar Galactica Includes Familiar Science Fiction Themes

By Audie C. Bosco

Battlestar Galactica is in an elite group of science fiction stories and franchises that has been popular over the range of many years with a wide audience. The first TV show by this name was broadcast in the late 1970's and though it did not last for many seasons, it did become quite a hit amongst devoted fans. Despite the fact that not everyone appreciates the unique concepts of the science fiction genre, there are many fans who love to imagine what the distant realms of the universe and the future of technology may hold for us. The stories of science fiction truly come alive for fans of this genre when the people making the games, movies, or television shows use elements of everyday life and attach them to the futuristic worlds they create.

Battlestar Galactica relates the story of a tiny colony of human survivors that have been forced out of their home planet by the Cylon, a race of cyborgs created originally by humans. Characters from this story resonate with fans due to their search for home and the struggles they face along the way. Good science fiction writers and artists know that the finest way to attract a wide audience is to keep the human element on the forefront and use the science fiction setting as a backdrop for the characters to interact in.

There are lots of spaceships that show up throughout Battlestar Galactica, including large transport vessels that are home to thousands of people and small fighter jets. One of the features of science fiction that keeps fans intrigued is what kinds of ships are used and how space travel is imagined. Although today's technology has just started to barely scratch the surface of what spaceflight might eventually become, science fiction artists are able to create elaborate concepts of how space travel could work one day.

Fans that want to truly experience what it would feel like to exist in this kind of science fiction universe can do so by playing video games that use the same characters, worlds, and vehicles found in the television show. It is exciting to get to interact with the characters and fight the antagonists in this way.

The popularity of Battlestar Galactica is well known as this franchise has successfully reached people all over the world. The story of BG is expanded through books, comics, and video games that let players get into the action of the main story.
