The Garmin 2360LMT - An Overview

By Alan Christopher

Ready to use directly from out of the box with many useful features pre-installed, the Garmin nvi 2360LMT was released in late 2010. With a 4.3 inch anti-glare LCD display, the mid-range unit has more to offer than it may seem at first glance.

Weighing in at only 5.0 oz., the Garmin nvi 2360LMT has a 4.3 in. anti-glare and backlit color touchscreen. Sporting a resolution of 480 by 272 pixels, the screen has the high resolution needed while driving. With a battery life lasting 2.5 hours the unit may be used inside a car or outside as a pedestrian and comes standard with plug-in adapters for use in vehicles. The GPS unit uses internal solid state memory to store maps, points of interest, traffic data and much more. The unit also has a microSD slot on the side in case users want to separate their map collections or run out of space on the internal memory. Wireless Bluetooth technology enables the device to transfer data and receive updates from a computer.

Spoken voice controls and voice prompts are one of the primary features of this GPS unit. With special recognition software, the nvi 2360LMT is able to listen to your questions and respond with information, maps, routes and much more. This device is able to look up addresses, update you on traffic situations on any number of roads and routes, assist with planning out more eco-friendly routes and much more, all without having to type any input into the unit. Using Garmin's innovative software, the 2360LMT is capable of directing drivers to their destination efficiently and painlessly, offering advice on which lanes to use, giving information about historical traffic data at certain intersections and roads, upcoming speed limit changes, toll road warnings with costs shown and even displaying images and illustrations of street signs that will be coming up. Garmin's 2360LMT is also able to be used in pedestrian situations when coupled with the extensive selection of cityXplorer maps that may be added to the device.

This unit comes equipped with pre-loaded City Navigator maps which include the USA, Canada and Mexico. It also comes standard with Garmin's lifetime traffic and map updates, which include updated information about speed limits, new roads, information about service facilities such as gas stations and hospitals and much more. Currently, Garmin's maps include more than six million POI's (points of interest) and more are added with each new update. These points of interests include, but are not limited to, gas stations, hotels, restaurants, major intersections, hospitals and ATMs.

This device is much more than just a GPS unit that assists with route planning and giving directions. Also included are a calculator, world clock with major cities to look up in each time zone, currency and unit converters for different measurement scales and much more. It is an extremely capable unit with more to offer than meets the eye.

While the 2360LMT model is a well-rounded GPS model, there are other models within Garmin's long line of GPS devices as well. The Garmin 1390LMT and Garmin 2555LMT both do not include the option to receive spoken voice controls. The 1390LMT is cheaper, while the 555LMT model is around the same price range but includes a more extensive and refined traffic avoidance system. The high-end GPS unit, the Garmin 3790LMT, has an ultra thin design with a thickness of 9mm. It includes all of the useful features from lower priced models and also includes an award-winning feature that displays maps and terrain in 3D, showing prominent structures and landmarks.
