Why there is a boom in the Android App Marketplace

By Andre M. Ortiz

When Apple first started the app store it was a revolutionary idea which provided people who bought their products with a number of features which had never been seen before. The app store put Apple one step ahead of the competition and their sales rocketed. It wasn't long before BlackBerry caught on the rise in sales which applications caused which led them to open their own app store.

Other phone manufacturers were left with faltering sales as everybody wanted a phone which could have apps on it. This led to the creation of the android operating system for a variety of makes of phones which would have their own applications separate to the Apple and BlackBerry offerings. The android operating system is available on a wide range of models though and not just limited to a BlackBerry or Apple handset like their respective operating systems are.

One of the main reasons for the boom in the marketplace of android apps is the price of the handsets they can be used on. Discounting one or two older BlackBerrys, the newer models from BlackBerry and Apple are out of most people's reach financially. Phones from HTC, Samsung or Sony Ericsson come in a range which is much more affordable than BlackBerry and Apple handsets yet the android operating system still lets them enjoy the benefits of the applications.

Another thing which is working in the favour of android is that the marketplace for android apps is run by Google, the most used and trusted website there is. With the operating system being backed by such a large brand it is likely to be both reliable and have a safe future with plenty more developments to look forward too.

The marketplace for android apps still has an astonishing number of applications available to download for users given that it is relatively new. This means that because of the affordable handsets and apps, android phone owners can enjoy what the Android App Marketplace has to offer and won't be missing out on anything iPhone and Blackberry owners have.
