Mobile Phones for Older Citizens

By Brendon Tison

The US government offers free cellular phones for senior citizens in the country along with service and coverage through the program called Lifeline Assistance. The senior citizens have to be eligible for this program given by Safelink-Wireless which provides both discounted and free cell phone service. There are no hidden costs such as fees, and monthly charges. The senior citizens don't have to sign any contract either. If they don't use up the time within a month, it gets carried over and if they need extra airtime, this can be purchased.

However, these senior citizens can avail of this Lifeline Assistance program only if they are not availing it through any other carrier. It is very simple to apply, as you just have to go to the Safe link-Wireless site and give your zip code. They may ask you for proof of any other form of present government assistance, in which you need to be ready to provide it. They also ask you to provide your SSN or Social Security Number.

Some senior citizens may be worried about providing their personal details on a website. The website is totally secure and this has been secured by Equifax. For those, who want to assure themselves regarding their personal details security, they can click on the 'padlock' symbol that is seen at the bottom part of the website screen and get all their security concerns answered.

Even after this, if you are still hesitant about giving out your information, then you can call 800/977-3768 and enroll through the telephone instead of via the internet. After you complete all the steps, just sit back and wait for your free cellular phone.

911 cellular phones for senior citizens above the age of fifty five are also given in various state programs. This provides help to the senior citizens, especially in times of an emergency or an accident. These phones are available for the elderly people. They are actually phones that have been donated by others and are offered free to these senior citizens. The cellular phones are reconditioned and serviced before distributing them to the senior citizens.
