Microsoft Excel 2010 Review

By Fero Hlina

Microsoft Excel is the hottest spreadsheet editor on the market and so it's every new version is going to have a tremendous result on plenty of folks. Excel is probably the element of Microsoft Office 2010 that has been modified the least, but there are still many new important features.

Plenty of the tiny screw ups of prior versions have been fixed in Excel 2010, especially in the area of macros. As all the other applications of Office 2010 Excel includes new refined Ribbon toolbar which is far more usable and practical than the first one in Office 2007. The Ribbon has been simplified, it is now much more clear and it can also include some enhanced customization options.

The Office logo menu has been substituted by the normal File menu. However , it has been completely it's not the same as in Office 2003. File menu now takes you to Backstage which is a new layer that appears above the documents that you are working on and it groups all of the saving, printing and sharing functions.

Excel 2010 makes sharing your files with mates or colleagues extremely easy. Microsoft now offers a new service called Skydrive that lets you save your documents in the "cloud" absolutely without a charge. These files are then accessible anytime from any device with Web connection. You simply give permission to your colleagues to view and edit the documents and send them a link via e-mail. Therefore collusion is particularly easy with Excel 2010. You can try out Excel 2010 for yourself, just download free Microsoft Office 2010 as a 30 day trial.

Excel 2010 also includes important improvements in security. There's a brand new feature called Protected View that automatically opens spreadsheets downloaded from the Web, received over e-mail or simply containing some suspicious macros in the "sandbox" environment where macros and a;; other coding is turned off. You can still view the document and if you suspect it's fine you can unlock the Protected View. This way the safety risk from computer viruses and spyware is significantly minimized.
