Mobile phone texting is one of the most popular forms of communication available. Children, teenagers and adults alike use this form of communication instead of its alternative "making a call". SMS or texting as it is referred to be the secondary feature of a phone. However it is probably used more frequently than the primary use of the phone. The reason for this popularity is the ease of use it affords the user. An SMS or text message is relatively cheaper than a 1 minute phone call. A user can send a message which is over 500 characters long.

Other features such as MMS or multimedia texting are widely used to send images and audio files via text message. This is an additional feature and has to be enabled via the user's provider. Texting and MMS have become a vital part of any phone. It is now considered as a basic feature even in the simplest phones. Many sites also offer free texting services to certain telecommunication providers. These features are trying to bridge the gap between mobile communication and internet communication.

The android phones are far more user friendly and are highly advanced in predictive text typing. Many small features such as these have favored the usage of SMS with many types of users including teenagers, children, adults and parents. SMS texting has become so popular that many words have been abbreviated to accommodate certain words for the sole purpose of texting.
