iPad 3: Some Apple Fans Disappointed

By Paul Barber

Some people are pretty hard to affect, as shown by some iPad news that Apple fans are disappointed over the new iPad. The iPad 3 comes with a new display, a new processor with a better graphics chip, a better camera and battery, and even a dictation function and LTE. As you may have guessed, the new device wowed most guests at Apple's media event last March 7. Not quite everybody is impressed though, and potentially the most disappointed are the Apple fans that have been waiting for the iPad 2's replacement for quite a long time.

Why the dissatisfaction?

In the opinion of some iPad review sites, the main reason out of the discontent is that most people predicted a completely revamped system, instead of an upgrade to the iPad 2. Let's check out some of reasons why there's a wailing and chomping of teeth.

Voice-dictation is not Siri. Siri, the popular voice-controlled virtual private aid, was obviously absent in the iPad 3. Most people were wishing that Siri would be incorporated to the new iPad, since the iPhone 4S owes much of its acclaim to the software. The new tablet COMPUTER brings a different player on board though: voice-dictation. It's a button on the keyboard that allows users to dictate e-mails and texts, do web searches and even write notes.

Battery. Technically, the iPad 3 has a better battery than its previous incarnation, as the iPad 2 has 25 Wh lithium-ion polymer battery, while the new iPad includes a 42 Wh. What's disheartening, according to tablet Personal computer comparison sites, is that while the battery is better, the battery life remains the same. Why is this? Well, the new Retina display packs 4 times more pixels than the iPad 2's display, and thus needs more computing power.

Quad core GPU, no quad core CPU. Apple's major competitors have been releasing quad core tablet PCs since last year, and it had been wildly hypothesized that the iPad 3 would have the same. Well, the long awaited rumoured A6 will probably remain just mythical for another few months.

In addition, the iPad 3 also drew some flak for its heavier weight, its shortage of USB and memory card support, its low internal storage, and its lack of NFC (Near Field Communication). At any rate, we will potentially still expect Apple fans to line up for the iPad 3 once it launches in March 16.
