Making Technology Work For You: A Guide To The IPhone

By Joseph Yew

There seem to be an infinite number of apps available for your iPhone, and at least a dozen ways that having one can make your life easier, if you know how. You can make your iPhone work for you instead of causing you grief just by reading through this article.

You can use your iPhone's calendar as an excellent organization tool. A way to use it more effectively is to directly create events on the calendar entry instead of using the plus button. First, change into "Day" view. Next, you can simply tap and hold any hour; a new event will automatically be created in that specific time. You will free up more time for other things!

You can make a phone call with one tap while using Safari. For example, you may want to find a local dry cleaner. When you find a number, you don't have to go back to the phone menu to call. Just tap on the number and you will be instantly connected to the business you want to contact.

If the iPhone freezes up, stay calm. The first thing to try is, of course, the sleep/wake button. The second solution is to press the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time. This button combination will provide a hard reset prompt that should revive your phone.

Purchasing an iPhone case could potentially save your phone. You can actually shatter the glass on the iPhone's front if you drop it without proper protection. Although the case is not a guarantee that nothing will happen to the device, it certainly helps.

Smaller windows on your Safari browser can be painstaking to navigate through. You might be scrolling the main website instead. If problems arise, see if you can zoom in on the relevant window. Then, use two fingers to scroll, rather than just one.

Have you lost a photo opportunity because the camera app was too slow to bring up? There's a faster way to take pictures. Clicking on the home button two times will get you to this area. Look for the camera icon at the screen bottom. Press the button to enable the camera.

There are a lot of great features that are on your iPhone straight out of the box, like a full dictionary. You can use this tool in pretty much any app. You just need to tap and hold any word you want to learn more about, and select "Define," which will be one of the available options shown.

Now you can see that iPhones offer many features right out of the box. However, there are still tons of things your iPhone is capable of that you may not know about. Use the advice above to make you iPhone all that it can be.
