Types of technical support

By Gavlar Viser

Everyone needs technical support at one time or another, even if you consider yourself to be something of an expert in computers. If you have your own business, it is even more important that you seriously consider getting proper IT support.

As there are so many different types of IT, network and technical support available, it can be a little tough to work out which will suit you the best and offer you the most benefits. One way to make up your mind is to find out more about what each type of technical support actually offers.

A great option is to outsource your IT support to an external firm, and if you do, there will be a number of services to choose from. Some IT support firms offer services on a time and materials arrangement, otherwise known as 'break-fix IT support'. What this means is that as well as paying for your computer materials, you also pay a set rate for an engineer to come out when you have a technical issue that needs fixing.

You may also be offered a block hours arrangement by your IT support company, which is where you pay upfront for a set amount of hours. You can get discounted rates by paying at the start, as well as the flexibility to use the hours whenever you need them, but you also only get a set number of hours. If you have a major issue and have no hours left, you may have to pay extra.

Another option is managed services, which involves you paying a flat fee or a fixed rate and getting a set of services in return. These may be a 24-hour help desk for all your computer issues, or it may be round the clock monitoring of servers.

IT support companies based near you are usually the ones to choose. So, for people who own businesses in Bury or live there, for example, an IT support Bury company is the best option to choose.
